State Events

QUDA is responsible for the management of the annual Queensland State Championships for Ultimate and Disc Golf.

QUDA hosts the various Australian Championships when they are available to be held in Queensland.

QUDA supports local Associations, Clubs and other groups to host occasional weekend playing events (known as tournaments).

QUDA may run its State Championships directly, or it may appoint another Association, Club or group of volunteers to run the event. In the case of the latter, QUDA generally seeks to sign a Memorandum of Understanding to ensure the quality of the event, while maintaining overall budgetary responsibility. Any financial surplus from the event is reinvested into the sport.

Queensland Mixed Ultimate Championships aka The Halibut

Generally held each year on the last weekend in July or the first weekend in August.

The Halibut is Queensland’s oldest continuing Ultimate tournament, and was first held in 1997. The tournament is popular with interstate teams, and traditionally heralds the start of the national Mixed season. Teams from all over Queensland compete. QUDA often provides some sort of financial subsidy to support the travel of players from North Queensland, although this can vary from year to year.

Queensland Open/Women’s Ultimate Championships aka Northerns or Northern Regionals

Generally held each year in mid-March – six weeks before the Australian Ultimate Championships.

The Queensland Open/Women’s Ultimate Championships (aka Northerns) serve as a qualification event for Queensland and Northern NSW based teams seeking to attend the Australian Ultimate Championships, usually held around the ANZAC Day Public Holiday in April. Northerns were first held in 2005. The other qualification events are held around Australia. QUDA often provides some sort of financial subsidy to support the travel of players from North Queensland, although this can vary from year to year. In 2011, as Nationals would be hosted in Brisbane, Northerns were held in Townsville for the first time

South East Queensland Qualifier

Generally held in late August – six weeks before the Australian Mixed Ultimate Championships

The South East Queensland Qualifier serves as a qualification event for Queensland and Northern NSW based teams seeking to attend the Australian Mixed Ultimate Championships, usually held in October. The Qualifier was first held in 2008.

Queensland Open Disc Golf Championships

Generally held in late July.

Queensland’s oldest Disc Golf tournament, the Queensland Open Disc Golf Championships have been held sporadically since the early 1990’s.

Queensland Hat

First held in November 2011, the Queensland Hat (or Q-Hat) is Queensland's premier hat tournament. A hat tournament is distinctive to Ultimate, in that players nominate as individuals and their names are drawn into teams from a metaphorical hat.

Event Support

Many QUDA office-holders have extensive experience in hosting flying disc events, and are willing to provide advice and other assistance.

Administrative documents for past QUDA events will be uploaded to this page.

QUDA has an array of tournament equipment which is available for loan to non-profit events, or hire. Contact equipment@quda.org for further information.
